SkyPing
NewOwn DNS and STUN servers, no third parties left

What does your connection give away?

One click checks your IP, DNS, WebRTC and headers, the way a website sees them. Everything runs on our own servers, nothing goes to anyone else.

Tools

Twelve tools, one promise.

Each one runs on our own servers. Open it in the browser or ask it from your terminal.

Privacy

Built to know nothing.

Other IP checkers ask other services in the background. SkyPing has everything itself, and says exactly what still leaves.

In your browser

The page talks only to skyping.ch and its own subdomains: v4. and v6. for the IP check, the leak zone and our STUN server.

  • skyping.ch
  • v4. / v6.skyping.ch
  • *.leak.skyping.ch
  • stun.skyping.ch

On our server

netd answers every lookup from data it keeps itself.

  • GeoIP from DB-IP Lite
  • VPN, Tor and data centre lists
  • Own nameserver and STUN server

What leaves, and to whom

Only what a tool has to ask for, never who asked.

  • Ping and SSL: the target sees our server
  • WHOIS: the registry sees the domain
  • Reverse DNS: our resolver sees the address
CLI

The same tools, in the terminal.

No JavaScript, just text. Made for scripts, servers and SSH sessions.

  • curl, wget and HTTPie are recognised
  • -4 and -6 pick the protocol
  • JSON through the API paths
  • In Windows PowerShell, type curl.exe: plain curl is another command there

Questions

What people ask about SkyPing.

Does SkyPing store my IP address?

No. A lookup is answered and forgotten. The rate limit lives in memory only, and the lookup service never writes addresses to its log.

Where does the location come from?

From a local copy of the DB-IP Lite database, refreshed once a month. It knows which region an address block is used in, usually down to the city, never your street.

What is a DNS leak?

Your VPN hides your address, but your system may still send DNS lookups to your provider outside the tunnel. The DNS leak test shows which resolvers really answer for you.

Why does SkyPing show no IPv6 address?

Then your connection, your router or your VPN has no working IPv6. SkyPing checks IPv4 and IPv6 through separate hostnames, so each one only answers if the protocol works.

How does SkyPing detect a VPN?

It compares your address with published lists of VPN ranges, Tor exits and data centre networks. A hit is a strong hint, a miss is no proof.
